In 2018, we are launching our first diamond, the JEM diamond. A diamond formed in a laboratory, respectful of people and nature and totally traced. A new, demanding diamond, which participates in the original movement of the House, that of advancing and progressing the world of jewellery towards what should be the true excellence and requirement with which luxury should be adorned today: responsibility, commitment, social and environmental progress.

We give a lot of importance to the quality of our lab-grown diamonds, carefully selected among the most beautiful and the rarest stones in terms of color, purity and size. We chose to collaborate with the most demanding laboratories, for the quality of their stone as much as their social and environmental practices. Among them, we are collaborating with Diamond Foundry, a pioneer actor of the lab-grown diamond industry, that recreates perfectly the conditions in which the Earth creates diamonds. Initiated in 2015, with Leonardo DiCaprio being one of their investors, this modern and innovative company based in San Francisco sees its ethical and ecological approach through, by uniting cutting-edge technology, solar energy and carbon neutrality to reach their zero ecological footprint goal.

Recreating light

A diamond results from the crystallization of pure carbon. To become an exceptional stone, the carbon is subjected to extreme temperature and pressure conditions that give it unique qualities of hardness and brilliance.

Like natural diamonds, synthetic diamonds are also formed by the same natural chemical phenomenon: the crystallization of carbon. Only the origin and the place of this phenomenon differ. Natural diamonds are formed under the ground at a depth of several kilometres and require extraction with impacts that are often disastrous for man and nature. Synthetic diamonds are formed on the earth's surface under totally controlled social and environmental conditions.

The latter emerges under the impetus of the hand of man who knows today how to reproduce the extreme conditions necessary to the process of crystallization of carbon. This advanced technology allows the formation of rough diamonds on the surface: exceptional, rare and unique stones. These stones are not false gems or imitations: they have the exact same physical, chemical, optical and aesthetic properties as a natural diamond and are valued according to the same 4C criteria - colour, carat, cut, clarity - guaranteeing the quality and uniqueness of a diamond.
A real scientific feat, this synthetic diamond is a major innovation for jewellery.

From an environmental point of view, it has a very minimal impact compared to mining. From a social point of view, it is neither associated with armed conflicts fuelled by blood diamonds, nor with human exploitation (child labour, human rights violations, forced labour, serious accidents). From an economic point of view, its disintermediated and traced marketing chain avoids any form of trafficking and corruption.

Putting science at the service of nature's magic

Each lab-grown diamond is unique.
Man recreates the conditions needed for a diamond's formation, then nature plays its part, and this is when magic happens: carbon crystallizes, giving birth to a unique diamond, in an unpredictable movement. Just like in the Earth’s core, the purest and whitest diamonds are the rarest. Like fire lit by a match, or a cultivated flower, this new diamond emerges from magical unions, unpredictable and controlled at the same time, initiated by Men who help nature give birth to what it already possesses.

How to call it?

Synthetic diamond, laboratory diamond, cultured diamond... so many names that can lead to confusion. But it is indeed the same thing.

In France, the law imposes us for the moment to call this diamond "synthetic diamond" to differentiate it from the natural diamond. However this term can easily mislead, letting suppose that it is a question of a false, of an imitation, of a different stone which would resemble it. This is not the case. A diamond is a diamond, whether it is formed in a laboratory or under the ground.

Also, this term "synthesis" is scientifically erroneous: no process of synthesizing occurs, Man does not "manufacture" diamond, he only recreates the conditions necessary to generate a natural phenomenon: the crystallization of carbon.

Some countries, including the United States, have already changed their legislation and now recommend the terms "laboratory diamond" or "cultured diamond". This last term seems to us the most appropriate, transparent and equivocal, the one which expresses at the same time the difference with the natural diamond and the reality of its process of formation.
